This student lounge, an interior infill of a space in an existing building, endeavors to maximize programmatic interaction and flexibility while maintaining critical pragmatic concerns such as circulation and functionality. The elements of the program - a lounge, café, and bookstore – are layered and intertwined laterally across the space in such a way as to create a circulatory system that connects the interior space with the terrace and sidewalks outside. In this way, the project not only weaves together the specific interior programs, but also connects those programs with the campus as a whole. The blurring of the program through thoughtful materiality and formal language allows the space to both absorb and radiate the vitality and energy of the many students that utilize it each day.
