This invited competition, sponsored by the History Channel, asked entrants to imagine what their city might look like in a hundred years.  Our proposal for Los Angeles assumed that the population of Metropolitan Los Angeles had swollen to over 50 million individuals and that a fusion of new technologies would make feasible the realization of city-wide mass transit through flight.  This new airborne infrastructure would alleviate the perpetual arterial congestion of the Angelino transit system as well as fulfill the promise of a truly pedestrian city.  Transit hubs spaced at half-mile intervals throughout the metro area would adapt to and affect the urban fabric, and would employ a series of environmental initiatives including green roofs, geothermal and solar energy, and extensive water management.
