Chicago Public School North Side, K-8
This 106,000 square foot project for a pre-K through 8th grade school focuses on of two primary concepts. First, the school creates an urban edge towards the community while creating a protected school garden. The school is tied to the community with spaces that could function as gathering spaces for civic events at multiple scales. Second is the creation of three “schools within schools”, nested inside the overall building that help integrate each individual child within the school as a whole. Together, these concepts promote a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for all the school’s children, and emphasize the schools relationship to its community.
